WVU’s Tshiebwe, McBride, Culver Listed Among the Best Players in College Basketball

Yesterday, CBS Sports released its list of the top-100 (and 1) players in college basketball this season.

The list, curated by Kyle Boon, Matt Norlander, Gary Parrish and David Cobb, featured a trio of Mountaineers as well as several of their Big 12 rivals.

Sophomore big man Oscar Tshiebwe lead the Mountaineers, ranked at number 15. Boon wrote that he expects Tshiebwe to play an even bigger role for WVU this season and that he could break out as one of the best players in the conference.

“After leading West Virginia in field goal percentage, points, rebounds and shots blocked last season, we expect his jumbo role will further increase as he heads into his second season. The dynamic Mountaineer big man is a force on both ends of the floor and could take the mantle as the Big 12’s most impactful frontcourt presence.”

WVU point guard Mile “Deuce” McBride came in at number 76. Cobb wrote that he liked McBride’s numbers from last season and thinks he will improve with more playing time this season.

“The unheralded prospect figures to be a starter now after making the Big 12 all-freshman team while averaging 9.5 points and 1.1 steals in just 22.3 minutes per game last season.”

Finally, junior big man Derek Culver just snuck on the list at number 92. Cobb wrote that he does not expect Culver to put up huge stats this season given the depth of talent WVU has, but stills likes the player Culver is.

“The Mountaineers have a deep cast of proven talent, so don’t expect Culver to produce eye-popping offensive numbers, but the 6-10 forward is a great rebounder who does a lot for the Mountaineers.”

Other Big 12 players who made the list are:
