Hard-Hitting 2023 New York LB Zyian Moultrie-Goddard Picks Up WVU Offer

The West Virginia football staff continued being aggressive extending offers on Tuesday with one of them going to a hard-hitting linebacker from New York.

2023 outside linebacker Zyian Moultrie-Goddard received word that his latest Power Five offer was from Neal Brown and the Mountaineers. Goddard attends Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York and also holds offers from Tennessee, Arizona State and Syracuse.

West Virginia Sports Now spoke with Goddard (6-foot-1, 225) following his news from West Virginia and told us he got a feeling yesterday that something could be happening soon.

“It was big news and a big deal for when I found out that they wanted to offer me because I grew up watching them and I liked Tavon Austin,” Goddard told WV Sports Now. “First the West Virginia coaches started following me on Twitter and then Yesterday (Monday), I was driving home and my coach called me and said that the coaches are interested in me and they wanted to talk to me today. After I was finished working out today, my coach told me to come to the coach’s office and I got on FaceTime. Then West Virginia assistant Andrew Jackson told me they were really interested in me, they liked my film and that he was going to offer me.”

“Getting this offer and all offers gets me excited because it shows that all the work you’ve done prior to this is starting to pay off. When you grow up and start playing football, your goal and dream is to play at the highest level of football and with offers like this you’re getting the opportunity to do that. This is a sign that you’re almost there but that you have to keep working.”

Goddard was quick to point out when asked that the strength of his game was his ability to be around the ball all the time and when he gets to the ball carrier he hits hard and lays the wood. He says that there are no soft hits when he’s coming. Tampa Bay Buccaneer linebacker Devin White and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner are two of Goddard’s favorite NFL players.

“Watching the NFL Draft over the weekend was really cool and seeing players get drafted sort of gave me the chills because I was thinking that if I keep working that one day that could be me.”

One other thing that Goddard said was that after receiving the offer, the West Virginia staff invited him to attend a prospects camp that will take place on June 10. He plans on talking to his parents about it and hopes to make the trip to Morgantown.
