WVU RB Markquan Rucker Enters Transfer Portal

Published

Playing time is essential for any college athlete and if they don’t feel they can get enough of it at one school, looking elsewhere makes sense. That’s likely the case for the latest West Virginia transfer who decided transferring is the best decision for him.

Running back Markquan Rucker announced that he is entering the transfer portal with three years left of eligibility. Rucker, who was redshirted in 2020 and then saw action in four games during the 2021 season, was behind a loaded Mountaineer back field this year.

With Tony Mathis taking over for Leddie Brown as the starter, CJ Donaldson, a player who was initially listed at tight end and hadn’t even tried running back until late in the summer, emerged, Justin Johnson Jr. received more carriers when the others were out and even Jaylen Anderson earning a Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor for his monster game to close the season against Oklahoma State, there didn’t appear to be much room for anyone else.

Three-star prospect Jahiem White out of York, Pennsylvania is also committed to WVU and a member of a strong recruiting class for the Mountaineers.

Rucker was used primarily on special teams in the games he did play for WVU, most notably in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
