ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi released his final tournament projection for the 2022-23 season before the selection show on Sunday. Lunardi has West Virginia as a 9-seed, playing Memphis in Columbus. The winner would most likely face No. 1 Purdue in the second round.

Lunardi has Memphis as an automatic qualifier, meaning they would win the AAC Championship against Houston on Sunday.

West Virginia played Purdue during Thanksgiving weekend earlier this season during the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland. The Boilermakers fought off a West Virginia comeback and eventually won the game and the event.

West Virginia is looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021. The Mountaineers earned the No. 3-seed, falling to Syracuse in the round of 32. WVU currently stands with a 19-14 record, winning seven Big 12 games during the regular season.
