Big 12 Favorite Will Be Without Veteran QB Again

Just when a Big 12 preseason favorite thought they were getting their quarterback back for good, he’s now going to miss time once again.

On Monday, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham announced quarterback Cam Rising will be out “indefinitely” during his weekly press conference.

“Cameron Rising’s injury has unfortunately been deemed season-ending. During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed.” He’d earlier been ruled out indefinitely,” said Whittingham.

True freshman Isaac Wilson will start in place of Rising, who returned to action Friday against Arizona State after missing the previous three games with a hand injury.

Rising then sustained a lower-leg injury early in Utah’s loss to Arizona State. He remained in the game, but struggled and completed only 16-of-37 passes with three interceptions and no touchdowns in their 27-19 loss.

Utah is 4-2 on the season, but only 1-2 in the Big 12 standings.

Note: Utah’s Week 2 win over Baylor does not count as a conference game due to it being initially scheduled as a non conference game years ago when Utah was a member of the Pac-12.

West Virginia does not play Utah during the 2024 regular season.
