The 2024 college football season is still young, but a lot has happened nonetheless. And the Big 12 has been no stranger to big games and results that may become a talking point when resumes start being evaluated towards the end of the season.

Even though we are still a week away from conference play truly getting underway, here’s a Big 12 roundup beyond WVU winning from the weekend’s Week 2 action.

Oklahoma State escaped a close call against Arkansas with a double overtime win.

Iowa State made a statement with a 21-20 win over rival Iowa.

Kansas State scored a resume padding victory over Tulane.

Kansas was upset by Illinois.

Houston lost to former Big 12 staple Oklahoma.

Cincinnati blew a 27-6 lead to lose to Pitt 28-27.

Deion Sanders and Colorado get destroyed by Nebraska.

Utah beats Baylor in a game that’s designated as a non conference game.

Texas Tech suffered a loss to Washington State.

BYU beat SMU on Friday night.

Arizona, Arizona State, TCU and UCF won.

To try to get ahead of any future confusion, the Big 12 sent a release to the media with a clarification on which games count as conference games and tie breaker procedures.

“As previously announced, Saturday’s Utah-Baylor matchup will not count as a conference game, due to it being originally scheduled as a non-conference game prior to Utah becoming a member of the Big 12 Conference. The non-conference game status will also apply to next week’s game between Arizona and Kansas State for identical reasons,” said the release ahead of the weekend.

Big 12 tiebreaker procedures if needed to determine who plays in Big 12 Championship Game, per the press release.

A – The tied teams will be compared based on their head-to-head record during the season.

B – The tied teams will be compared based on win percentage against all common conference opponents.

C – The tied teams will be compared based on win percentage against the next highest-placed common opponent in the standings (based on the record in all games played within the Conference) proceeding through the standings.

D – The tied teams will be compared based on combined win percentage in conference games of conference opponents.

E – The tied teams will be compared based on total number of wins in a 12-game season.

F – The representative will be chosen based on highest ranking by SportSource Analytics (team rating score metric) following the last weekend of regular-season games.

G – The representative will be chosen by a coin toss.

More on the Big 12’s tiebreaker procedures and what would happen in the event three teams are tied can be found at the conference’s website.

The 2024 Big 12 Football Championship will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Kickoff is set for 11 am CT and the game will air nationally on ABC.
