Welcome back to Gambler’s Corner!
Last week, our winning streak came to a halt when two of our three picks resulted in losses, bringing our overall record to 10-5.
No need to panic — we’ve got some fresh picks for you for week nine!
Last week’s results:
- Cincinnati (+3) at Temple – Loss
- Stanford (-2.5) at Arizona State – Win
- Tennessee (+29) versus Alabama – Loss
Hot Picks of Week Nine
West Virginia (-13.5) versus Baylor
I have a handful of steadfast rules when it comes to gambling and one of those is to never bet with your heart. The West Virginia fan in me, however, can’t resist the urge to put money on the Mountaineers this Thursday night. There may not be a team in the country as desperate for another opportunity to prove itself as an elite team as West Virginia. I like Will Grier and the Mountaineers’ offense to regain its composure against a rather porous Baylor defense that allows just over 400 yards per game. Dana Holgorsen claims the issues that plagued the Mountaineers over the past three weeks have been resolved. I trust that he’s right.
Kentucky (+7) at Missouri
In the SEC, it’s Alabama and everyone else. Kentucky, however, has asserted itself as one of the best amongst “everyone else.” Averaging over 218 yards rushing per game, the Wildcats boast the third-best ground attack in the conference. Kentucky running back Benny Snell Jr. (868 yards, 9 TDs) should have a field day against a Missouri defense that allowed an average of 184 yards on the ground against Alabama and Georgia.
Texas Tech at Iowa State (Over 51)
This could be one of those too-good-to-be-true situations or a “suck bet” as we call it. For two offenses that average 67 points combined per game, a 51-point line seems extremely low. Boasting a high-powered passing game is nothing new for the Red Raiders, but since Iowa State freshman quarterback Brock Purdy took over against Oklahoma State three weeks ago, the Cyclones have also scored in bunches, averaging 39 points and 286 yards passing per contest. This one should be yet another high-scoring Big 12 affair.
