MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Hoping to lay the foundation for something special when he arrived one year ago, Honor Huff can reflect back on his lone season as a Mountaineer and look on the bright side despite missing out on the NCAA Tournament.

Excited to take part in the College Basketball Crown, Huff explained that, while West Virginia’s 2025-26 team won’t go down as among the best in program history, it was one of the most together groups he’s ever been part of or even witnessed from afar.

Their love for each other and desire to play as much basketball together as possible fueled Huff and his teammates wanting to participate in the College Basketball Crown, a tournament he understands isn’t where WVU fans wanted to see them be come March and early April.

Having won the 2025 NIT with Chattanooga last season, Huff even mentioned how “unique” and “cool” it would be to be the first player to own both an NIT and Crown championship ring.

And regardless how much turnover WVU may experience and the lack of connectivity between players of the past and present in college sports today, Huff does believe he helped lay the foundation for any future success Ross Hodge has during his tenure. Huff mentioned that Hodge told his 2025-26 team that they will always hold a special place in his heart as his first with West Virginia, first in the Big 12 etc.

All in all, Huff views his time at WVU as far more of a positive than anything else, so much so that he’s willing to help pitch the school to future recruits and transfers.

“If you want to grow as a basketball player and as a person, this is the place to be.”

Huff averaged 15.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 35.4% from the field and 35.4% from three in 32 games throughout the 2025-26 season. Overall in his college career spanning VMI, two seasons with Chattanooga and West Virginia, Huff recorded averages of 14.7 points, a 41.1% clip from the field and 38.3% from longe range.
