Honor Huff Guarantees WVU Will Outperform Big 12 Poll: ‘We’ll Prove People Wrong’
Ross Hodge and his players were preparing to be picked towards the bottom of the Big 12, and they were. However, when guard Honor Huff learned about WVU’s placement in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, he offered a response any coach would love hearing from a star player.
“That’s fine. We figured that. We’re not worried about that. We’ll prove a lot of people wrong,” responded Huff when asked about results of the poll in the middle of a press conference.
He then paused and added, “I can guarantee that.”

But regardless of the confidence of Huff and his teammates, Hodge and WVU are predicted to finish near the bottom of the Big 12, at least according to the Big 12 Menโs Basketball Preseason Poll. The results were revealed on Thursday, showing West Virginia in 11th.
The Mountaineers are only expected to outperform Oklahoma State, Utah, UCF, Colorado and Arizona State (in that order).
Huff even added that most of his confidence comes from Hodge, knowing that his teams have finished above their preseason projections throughout his coaching career.
Huff, a junior from Brooklyn, NY, led the nation with 131 made three-pointers at Chattanooga during the 2024-25 season, shooting 41.6% from range.
Huff began his career at VMI in 2021-22, earning a spot on the Southern Conference all-freshman team by averaging 10 points per game while shooting 44% from the floor.
He then transferred to Chattanooga and sat out the 2022-23 season. He started all 33 games in 2023-24, averaging 17.4 points and making 109 three-pointers. Huff was named All-Southern Conference second team.
This season, Huff averaged 15.2 points per game while leading the country with 131 three-pointers. He shot 42.4% from the floor and 41.6% from range. He earned All-Southern Conference first-team honors.
Huff helped Chattanooga go 29-9 this season and win the NIT championship. In the final against UC Irvine, Huff scored 14 points despite shooting just 3-of-13 from the field and 3-of-11 from three.
Huff set career highs of 31 points and nine three-pointers in a game against VMI this season.
