WVU Football offers Jacob Barrick

All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU football roster.

A native of Martinsburg, W. Va., senior tight end Jacob Barrick spent his first three college seasons playing for new Mountaineers head coach Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State. Barrick, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 231 pounds, followed Rodriguez to Morgantown this offseason, giving him a chance to suit up for his home state during his final season of eligibility.

While Barrick possesses familiarity with Rodriguezโ€™ system after three years playing in it, which could give him a leg up in any training camp position group battles, he didnโ€™t get much usage as a target in the passing game during his time with the Gamecocks. Barrick hauled in just nine passes for 102 yards across the last two seasons, primarily serving as a blocker.

With star tailback Jahiem White in the fold, however, Barrickโ€™s ability to open up holes in the ground game could prove invaluable for the Mountaineers in 2025.

Last year: Barrick appeared in 13 games for the Gamecocks, opening up holes in the ground game for a rushing offense that gained 3,838 yards.

Stats: The West Virginia native caught six passes for 70 yards in 2024, and has nine catches for 102 yards in his college career.

Camp outlook: Jumping from Conference USA to the Big 12 could prove a challenge for Barrick, although his familiarity with Rich Rodriguezโ€™ offense should help smooth over any bumps that arise.

Projected role: Expect Barrick to serve in a similar role as he did at Jacksonville State, bringing upside as a blocker rather than serving as a major downfield threat.

Accolades, highlights: Barrick earned a first-team all-state selection as a senior at West Virginiaโ€™s Martinsburg High School after catching 38 passes for 644 yards and seven touchdowns. He also racked up 60 tackles with four sacks and an interception on defense, and hauled in a touchdown pass during the Bulldogsโ€™ 2021 state championship game win.

Barrick also has a history with WVU Football teammate Jarod Bowie, who he played alongside at both Martinsburg and Jacksonville State.
