Jacob Barrick’s Familiarity with Rich Rod | WVU Football All 105

All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU football roster.
A native of Martinsburg, W. Va., senior tight end Jacob Barrick spent his first three college seasons playing for new Mountaineers head coach Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State. Barrick, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 231 pounds, followed Rodriguez to Morgantown this offseason, giving him a chance to suit up for his home state during his final season of eligibility.
While Barrick possesses familiarity with Rodriguezโ system after three years playing in it, which could give him a leg up in any training camp position group battles, he didnโt get much usage as a target in the passing game during his time with the Gamecocks. Barrick hauled in just nine passes for 102 yards across the last two seasons, primarily serving as a blocker.
With star tailback Jahiem White in the fold, however, Barrickโs ability to open up holes in the ground game could prove invaluable for the Mountaineers in 2025.

Last year: Barrick appeared in 13 games for the Gamecocks, opening up holes in the ground game for a rushing offense that gained 3,838 yards.
Stats: The West Virginia native caught six passes for 70 yards in 2024, and has nine catches for 102 yards in his college career.
Camp outlook: Jumping from Conference USA to the Big 12 could prove a challenge for Barrick, although his familiarity with Rich Rodriguezโ offense should help smooth over any bumps that arise.
Projected role: Expect Barrick to serve in a similar role as he did at Jacksonville State, bringing upside as a blocker rather than serving as a major downfield threat.
Accolades, highlights: Barrick earned a first-team all-state selection as a senior at West Virginiaโs Martinsburg High School after catching 38 passes for 644 yards and seven touchdowns. He also racked up 60 tackles with four sacks and an interception on defense, and hauled in a touchdown pass during the Bulldogsโ 2021 state championship game win.
Barrick also has a history with WVU Football teammate Jarod Bowie, who he played alongside at both Martinsburg and Jacksonville State.
