Mark Kellogg Teases More Roster Additions for WVU Women’s Basketball

Coming off a highly successful first two seasons, WVU women’s basketball head coach Mark Kellogg has been busy building his new roster. With JJ Quinerly now in the WNBA, Kellogg is tasked with trying to get West Virginia to the next level while starting a new era for the program.
So far, Kellogg and his staff have been scoring offseason win after offseason win, recruiting key players for next season’s team. They also aren’t done yet.
Despite already having an offseason worthy of hype, Kellogg teased more to come during a recent appearance on Locked On West Virginia with Mountaineer Paul. He didn’t give any names, but did tease that news of two more new players is on its way.
When asked about his current roster number, Kellogg broke some news.
“There’s 11 today. We’ve signed one more so we’re going to wait and release that one, which will be interesting when it gets released for sure. We are waiting on one more so it may end up being 13. The last one is an NCAA eligibility issue,” said Kellogg.

These are players who Kellogg sounds extremely excited about, granted he let slip that an NCAA waiver is part of what is holding one up from being publicized.
To highlight some of WVU’s offseason work, Gigi Cooke became a notable addition when she officially signed in early May. Texas Techโs Loghan Johnson also joined the Mountaineers this spring.ย Wisconsinโs Carter McCray, Butlerโs Riley Makalusky and Norfolk Stateโs Kierra Wheeler have also committed to WVU.
West Virginia finished last season ranked No. 21 by the Associated Press. The WVU women (25-8) earned a No. 6 seed in the tournament and played at North Carolina in the Birmingham Region. WVU topped Columbia in the first round before falling to host UNC in round two.
West Virginia finished the season with 25 wins for the second year in a row, marking the teamโs first consecutive 25-win seasons in program history.
WV Sports Now uncovered that head coach Mark Kellogg earned an automatic one-year extension in a contract amendment he signed last summer, putting him under contract with WVU through 2030.
