The WVU athletic department finishes inside the top 50 in the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings for the 2024-25 calendar year, marking a big improvement from last year.

WVU’s 42nd-place finish is nine spots higher than last year’s 51st-place finish.

This also stands as the fifth-best finish in school history and its best finish since a 40th-place finish in 2010-11.

The Mountaineers’ best finishes were a school-best 30th-place finish in 2007-08, 37th in 2009-10, 40th in 2010-11, 41st in 1997-98 and 42nd in 2024-25.

West Virginia finished as the sixth-highest ranked Big 12 school in the final standings: BYU (25th), Oklahoma State (29th), Arizona State (34th), TCU (38th), Texas Tech (40th), West Virginia (42nd), Arizona (43rd), Baylor (52nd), Iowa State (56th), Utah (60th), Kansas (65th), Colorado (69th), Houston (72nd), Kansas State (79th), UCF (83rd) and Cincinnati (125th).

WVU sat at No. 24 at the last update in April.

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.

Most of this story was taken from the WVU press release.
