Jeff Goodman Names WVU Basketball as Big Winner of Transfer Portal
College basketball analyst Jeff Goodman has high praise for Ross Hodge and the WVU basketball staff this offseason, listing West Virginia as a top five offseason winner in the latest episode of the Field of 68: After Dark.
WVU has put together a solid portal class with Georgia Tech center Mohammad Sylla, St. John’s guard Joson Sanon, Utah forward Seydou Traore, Boise State guard Javan Buchanan, FSU guard Martin Somerville and Butler guard Finley Bizjack. Five-star guard Miles Sadler compliments the offseason class as a stellar freshman guard.
“Sylla’s really good. Really one of the best bigs in the portal. Finley Bazjack was really productive last year at Butler. You brought Sanon on from St. John’s, a really good talented wing and you got one of the best freshman in the country in Sadler,” Goodman said.
Goodman said he ranked WVU so high because Hodge and company have exceeded his expectations. He went so far as to say this class can help WVU become nationally relevant again.
“I think for them it was like a little bit outperforming my expectations of what they were going to do this offseason and now becoming nationally relevant again,” Goodman said. “That’s part of it for me with West Virginia. I know there were other teams, yes, I could have put on that list. I just felt like West Virginia, I was surprised to have them in that in the mix.”
WVU still has two open roster spots to tinker with throughout the summer before the upcoming season gets underway.

maybe two strong forwards,,, looks like we’re overloaded with guards,,, that’s ok if we’re going to start 4 guards and a center, but who thinks that would work??????
we need 2 powerful strong forwards to help on defense,,,, good what we’ve go but 2 more slots to fill snd i hope ross doesn’t go after div 2 players…
