WVU basketball head coach Ross Hodge announced the signing of Javan Buchanan to a grant-in-aid to join the Mountaineers in 2026-27.

Buchanan, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound senior from Lafayette, Ind., will come to Morgantown from Boise State, where he played the last two seasons. He committed on April 11.

“Javan is one of those players that everyone loves playing with,” Hodge said a statement. “He has tremendous intangibles and great versatility. Javan makes everyone else better around him and will represent this state in a first-class manner.”

Buchanan spent the past two seasons with the Broncos after transferring from the NAIA level. Buchanan averaged 12.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game during the 2025-26 season. He appeared in 37 games and was named the Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year. He shot 42.3% from the field and 83.6% from the free throw line. His career free throw percentage of 82.7% ranked third in Boise State history.

Buchanan scored a career-high 29 points at San Diego State. In the Mountain West tournament, he had a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds against San Jose State.
