Edwards, Stevenson Produce Off Bench in Summer League Games
Former Mountaineers Jesse Edwards and Erik Stevenson both produced off the bench in their respective NBA summer league games on Thursday night. Edwards plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves while Stevenson is getting an opportunity with the Washington Wizards.
Edwards recorded eight points and 10 rebounds on 50% shooting in 18 minutes. Edwards also had a block and a positive plus-minus of seven. Stevenson scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting in an limited 11 minutes of play.
Edwards worked his way to a two-way deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves following the draft. Edwards was invited to the NBA draft combine, where he spent a week in Chicago with other prospects.
The former Mountaineer and Syracuse Orange played in the Reese’s Division-I All-Star Game during the Final Four weekend in Phoenix, Az. The 6-foot-11 big man finished with eight points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 16 minutes. Edwards also recorded eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks during the final game of the G League Elite Camp session.
Stevenson played in the NBA Summer League last year with the San Antonio Spurs. The Lacey, Wa. native averaged over 10 points through 46 NBA G-League games with the Spurs and the Texas Legends. Stevenson also played in France for four games during the spring.
Other Mountaineers that are playing in the summer league include RaeQuan Battle (Hornets), Jalen Bridges (Suns), Tre Mitchell (Thunder), Emmitt Matthews Jr. (Hawks) and Gabe Osabuohien (Cavaliers). Edwards and Bridges signed two-way deals following the NBA draft in June.
