John Beilein Returns to WVU During Elite Eight Reunion

Former WVU head coach John Beilein returns to Morgantown this weekend as WVU basketball is celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the Elite Eight team.

Beilein, as well as players from the 2004-05 team, got together in celebration on Friday night and will be honored during Saturday’s football game vs. Kansas.

Beilein also spoke with West Virginia’s current squad under head coach Darian DeVries.

The Mountaineers finished the season 24-11 (8-8 Big East), earning a 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament. West Virginia defeated Creighton, who DeVries served as an assistant, in the first round. From then, WVU defeated No. 2 Wake Forest (111-105 2OT), No. 6 Texas Tech (65-60). West Virginia’s run came to an end vs. Louisville in the Elite Eight.

Beilein went on to coach Michigan to two National Championship appearances in 2013 and 2018. Beilein also coached the Wolverines to nine NCAA Tournament appearances and two Big 10 Conference Tournament Championships. Beilein left Michigan in 2019 to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers, before resigning from the position just a year later.
