After WVU lost to UCF 72-59 on Tuesday night in Orlando, interim HC Josh Eilert appeared on the postgame radio show with Tony Caridi to discuss the game. Eilert talked about the loss, RaeQuan Battle’s ejection and Jesse Edwards’ potential availability.

On UCF’s Big Start

“It’s hard in this league. Especially as good as they are defensively to get anything going. When you dig that big hole, good luck trying to get out of it. We keep telling these guys, we got to fight and fight to the bitter end. We’re not going to quit by any means, but we got disconnected in so many ways.”

Rebounding + Jesse Edwards

“Like I keep saying, you might as well tear up the game plans and start a fire if we don’t rebound it.”

“Hopefully we can insert Jesse [Edwards] in the lineup on Saturday, hopefully, he’s good to go and that can help us on shoring up those inefficiencies.”

RaeQuan Battle’s Ejection

“He’s frustrated and I get it. I understand his frustrations but he handled it the wrong way. And he knows it. He popped off a couple times and awarded what they gave him. So as a teaching moment gave him a hug, told him I love him and said we’ve got to fix this. We’ve got to fix this. Let me deal with him. We’ve got to have more discipline when things get tough. We’ve got to have that mental toughness to just play through it, figure out what it is that we can do to correct [it].”

I wanted to use that moment to do a little teaching and a little life lesson. So had that moment with him and he went off the floor with his head held high.”

Eilert and West Virginia will now prepare to face Oklahoma State on the road this Saturday.
