Meet the 2026-27 WVU Basketball Team: Dynamic Playmaker Miles Sadler
It’s impossible to discuss the potential for the 2026-27 WVU basketball team without bringing up five-star freshman guard Miles Sadler.
Sadler’s list of accolades is overwhelming. To name a few, he is a reigning Chipotle Nationals champion, he was named to the MaxPreps All-American First Team and also was selected to the 2026 Nike Hoop Summit World Select team.
The highest-rated recruit in program history made his debut against the University of Maryland on Oct. 18. where he tallied 16 points, four assists and two steals in 26 minutes played.
While Sadler showed promise in his first outing, some areas of improvement revealed themselves as well. He turned the ball over four times and fouled out, and defending hard without fouling is vital to playing for head coach Ross Hodge.
If the starting lineup from WVU’s first exhibition holds, Sadler will run point guard with the first team. He provides a faster pace of play than WVU had last year with the ability to push the ball up the court in transition.
Sadler knows how to find his teammates for open looks, as he had 10 assists in the Chipotle Nationals Semifinals. However, he is also more than capable of creating his own shot off the dribble from three.
While some may consider him undersized at six feet, Sadler’s explosiveness attacking the rim makes up for it. He constantly finishes confident and strong and often finds his way to the free throw line, going 6-6 during the exhibition.
This year’s WVU squad has a healthy mix of youth and experience, and Sadler could be the young spark to help this team reach its potential.
