For more WVU basketball scheduling news, the new-look Mountaineers will test themselves with a late November game against a blue blood.

According to a Thursday report by Rocco Miller, West Virginia is finalizing an agreement to meet North Carolina in the second annual Dick Vitale Invitational at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

This matchup stands out for multiple reasons that extend far beyond adding a quality opponent to the out of conference schedule. Even though both teams will be led by a different coach and will employ different rosters, WVU fans will view a game against the Tar Heels as a way to get revenge for the 2025 NCAA Tournament snub.

And in addition to what the game will mean to fans, West Virginia has a large alumni base located in Charlotte, providing an opportunity for significant fan support inside UNC’s home state. That’s if WVU fandom doesn’t end up split between football and basketball.

Rich Rodriguez’s team will close their regular season on that same night in Utah. The Mountaineers and Utes are set to kickoff at either 8 or 9 pm ET on FOX in a game that was initially scheduled for Saturday.
