Joseph Yesufu

Washington State transfer guard Joseph Yesufu has not been cleared to return to the floor, WVU HC Darian DeVries told CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Yesufu has been dealing with a hip injury from last season with WSU.

DeVries hopes Yesufu returns within the next four to six weeks.

Yesufu (6-foot) played this past season at Washington State, averaging 6.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in six games. Following a season-ending injury, Yesufu entered the transfer portal and committed to West Virginia. The Bolingbrook, Il. native has played at Drake and Kansas. At Drake, Yesufu helped the Bulldogs to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, averaging 12.8 points. Yesufu transferred to Kansas after Drake and was a part of the 2022 National Championship team.

Yesufu has one year of eligibility remaining as he reunites with his former coach in DeVries.

Another injury update: WVU F Tucker DeVries has been recovering from his shoulder surgery that was completed in March. DeVries was fighting through the injury last season as he led Drake to the NCAA Tournament, winning the Missouri Valley Player of the Year for the second-straight season. Tucker’s father, Darian, told 3 Guys Before the Game that he hopes his son will be cleared during the month of July.

WV Sports Now will continue to provide updates on West Virginia basketball this offseason.

I am not sure why WVU even wants this guy. I am 60 and could give WVU better statistics. His stats are terrible!!! WVU needs to get more big men and rim protectors. What are they thinking?

WHY DID WE SIGN HIM,, IT WILL BE A HUGE MEDICAL BILL AND THEN HE MIGHT NEVER PLAY , SOMETHING ISN’T TOO SMART ABOUT THIS SIGN,, HE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE A BIG GET ANYWAY,, AND WE WASTED TIME AND MONEY ON A CRIPPLED PLAYER,,, DIDN’T SOMEONE GIVE HIM A PHYSICAL BEFORE SIGNING HIM,, THIS ISN’T SMART AT ALL.. IT’S TURNING OUT TO BE ALOT OF WASTED TIME AND ESPECIALLY MONEY ON THIS GUY,, TELL HIM TO GO BACK TO WASH STATE,,, WE JUST DON’T SEEM TO BE VERY SMART WHEN SPENDING WVU’S MONEY.
