Report: WVU Linebacker James Thomas Enters Transfer Portal

Published

on

It appears as though West Virginia is losing a young linebacker.

According to Chris Anderson of EerSports (247 Sports), redshirt freshman linebacker James Thomas has elected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Thomas (6’2″, 210) was a 2020 3-star recruit from Mitchell County High School in Baconton, Georgia and committed to the Mountaineers over other offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Tennessee, South Carolina and South Florida.

After redshirting last season, Thomas appeared in 4 games this season mostly on special teams. He started the season as the backup MIKE linebacker but lost that spot to Maine transfer Deshawn Stevens.

Entering the transfer portal isn’t final and Thomas has the opportunity to withdraw his name if he chooses to do so.
