Safety William Davis Hounds the Backfield | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.
William Davis spent the first five seasons of his college career (including a redshirt year and the COVID year) as a cornerback at Virginia Union, a Division II HBCU.
He enters a Mountaineers’ secondary room in desperate need of overhaul after allowing opponents to shred them through the air in 2024. A former walk-on with half a decade of experience in Division II under his belt, Davis could carve out a role in a wide open position battle.
11 • William Davis, redshirt senior nickel safety
Last year: The 5-foot-10, 193 pound Davis displayed a knack for reading the backfield, picking up 11.5 tackles for loss.
Stats: Across 36 career games (20 starts) Davis had nine interceptions, 115 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Camp outlook: The Mountaineers brought in a flood of defensive backs from the lower levels of college football, so Davis will need to make a case for himself among a crowded field.
Projected role: If he’s used as a nickel safety, Davis could give the Mountaineers versatility to disguise a blitz or guard against unexpected run plays.
Accolades, highlights: If he gets playing time, Davis’ ability to play up and make stops in the backfield could turn him into a defensive spark plug.
