Top 5 Quarterbacks West Virginia will face in 2018
No.4 – Kyle Kempt, Iowa State
There is no question about it that the Cyclones quarterback was one of the best stories in college football last year. A kid who started out at Oregon State who did not see any playing time, walked on to Hutchinson C.C. where he also did not play, found himself as the starting quarterback for Iowa State about midway through the season. Kempt set a school record for single season completion percentage at 66.3% while also throwing for 1,802 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. The most memorable moment for Iowa State in 2017 was when Kyle Kempt threw for 343 yards in a stunning victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman.
Kempt is a game manager and takes car of the ball (only 3 interceptions in 2017). He is what I would consider a poor man’s Alex Smith, he won’t always put up big numbers, but is very capable of doing so. Another year under the tutelage of Matt Campbell will be very beneficial for him and I expect him to make some big leaps this fall. Kempt was named to the Honorable mention All-Big 12 team.
