Watch: Casey Legg Hits Game Winning FG Against Oklahoma

Published

on

For the first time since West Virginia (4-6, 2-5 Big 12) joined the Big 12, they have defeated perennial powerhouse Oklahoma (5-5, 2-5 Big 12).

After a great performance from quarterback Garrett Greene, who replaced starter JT Daniels during the game, the win was capped off by kicker Casey Legg’s 25-yard game winning field goal as time expired.

Video of the game winning kick, and the celebration afterwards, is below.

Oklahoma is in the midst of a down season as they sit .500 10 weeks into first-year head coach Brent Venables first season. They now sit at risk of being bowl inegilible for the first time since 1998.

Their streak of 23 consecutive bowl eligible seasons is the longest active streak in college football right now. They have games left against Oklahoma State (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) and Texas Tech (4-5, 2-4 Big 12) and will have to win one of those two in order to make a bowl game this year.

As for West Virginia, they are also at risk of being bowl ineligible but for the second time in four seasons. West Virginia hasn’t missed two bowl games in such a short period of time since they missed out on two bowl games in a three-year span from 1999-2001.

Regardless it’s still a big win for a program that’s had a down season. This is despite still needing to win out against No. 23 Kansas State (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) and Oklahoma State just to become bowl eligible and Oklahoma having their own down season as well.
