The West Virginia Mountaineers (11-6) take game one of a doubleheader and a three-game series 9-1 over the William & Mary Tribe (12-3). In what started off as a pitching duel, the WVU bats came alive in the fifth and overwhelmed the Tribe in a lopsided victory.

West Virginia starting pitcher Alek Manoah came out of the gates strong, retiring the side, on his way to a nine-strikeout day.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Kevin Brophy opened the flood gates with a solo shot over right-centerfield. Brandon White kept the inning alive with a two-out single to left field. White made it to second on a passed ball and Tevin Tucker brought him in on a single to left field.

Tyler Doanes loaded the bases hitting a grounder through the gap on the left-side. Ivan Gonzalez moved everyone over and brought Tevin Tucker home on a base hit to right-centerfield. Then Darius Hill smacked one deep into right-centerfield for a 2RBI double that capped of a five-run inning for WVU.

Paul McIntosh started a three-run inning in the sixth for West Virginia with a double down right field line, followed up with a double from TJ Lake, setting up Brandon White for a two RBI single. Tevin Tucker delivered a single into right-center, bringing in White, pushing the lead to 8-0.

Darius Hill added another run in the seventh with a bomb over the right field wall as the Mountaineers go on to beat the Tribe 9-1.
