The West Virginia Mountaineers (18-11, 3-4) scored 10 runs in the first five innings on their way to a convincing 11-1 game one win over the No. 25 Oklahoma State Cowboys (18-10, 5-2). The win marks the fourth-straight for the Mountaineers and their first Big 12 road win.

West Virginia lead-off hitter Tyler Doanes started the game by taking third on an error from right fielder Cade Cabbiness. Then, Brandon White reached first on a walk and immediately stole second base to set up the first run of the game on a Darius Hill RBI sacrifice groundball to first, scoring Doanes.

Marcus Inman brought in White on a hard-hit groundball through the left side, followed by Paul McIntosh and Ivan Gonzalez producing back-to-back hits to load the bases and Oklahoma State starting pitcher Jensen Elliott walked Kevin Brophy to bring in the third run of the inning.

Darius Hill extended the lead in the second on an RBI double to deep center field scoring Brandon White after getting on base with a hit down the third base line.

Gonzalez started the third with a line drive down the leftfield line and advanced to third on an Austin Davis Single. Elliot continued to have control issues and threw a wild pitch to put the Mountaineers up 5-0.

Another Cowboys error put runners on the corners in the fourth and Marcus Inman delivered a 2 RBI double on a hard line-drive that rolled to the leftfield wall.

The Mountaineers continued to pour it on in the fifth. Tevin Tucker started the inning off drawing a walk, then stole second and third to put him 90 feet away from tacking on another run. Doanes scored Tucker on a single.

Later on, with two outs and Doanes still standing at first. Darius Hill got his third RBI on the night on a hard hit to left-centerfield and Marcus Inman obtained his fourth RBI on another double to leftfield to put WVU up 10-0 after five innings.

“We just kept adding to the lead and adding to the lead.” Said West Virginia head coach Randy Mazey after the game. “We didn’t let complacency get in on us. When we had the lead in the middle of the game, we just kept our foot on the gas pedal and just kept scoring runs.”

West Virginia tacked on another run in the eight on a sacrifice fly for Doanes to bring in Gonzalez.

Mountaineers starting pitcher Alek Manoah tossed a shutout through eight innings, striking out 11 Cowboys as WVU went on to win comfortably 11-1.

“When you need a competitive guy to put the team on his shoulders and win a game, he’s the guy you want to give the ball to.” Stated Mazey. “He just gives 100% percent every time out there. Really pitched well tonight. Had all three of his pitches going and got better as the game went on.”

West Virginia and Oklahoma State will meet in game with the first pitch set for 3:05 pm est inside Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
