The West Virginia Sports Now Daily Notebook is a daily recap of news concerning West Virginia University Athletics and other relevant news.

Update (9:20 PM) – WVU Women’s Basketball demolished Texas Southern 109-40 at the Hope Coliseum on Monday, Dec. 8, their second win in a row. Although the Lady Tigers opened the scoring on a two-point shot 49 seconds in, the Mountaineers wasted little time pushing their lead north of thirty points, doing so at the end of the first half when junior forward Riley Makalusky drew a foul on a buzzer beater attempt. All five of the Mountaineers’ starters finished in double digits despite playing just 121 combined minutes after running away with the lead.

Kierra Wheeler led the field with 23 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals in just 23 minutes played; Jordan Harrison hit the 1,000 point mark for her Mountaineers’ career, finishing with 17 points, seven assists, four steals and no turnovers. Gia Cooke (14 points), Carter McCray (12 points), Sydney Shaw (11 points) and bench guard Sydney Woodley (12 points) rounded out the major scoring contributions.

Up next, the Mountaineers will host Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11.
