WVU Announces 2021 Baseball Schedule, Season Opener Set for Feb. 19

The West Virginia University baseball team finally has a full schedule for its 2021 season, which will begin in Georgia on Feb. 19.

The Mountaineers, who are ranked No. 14 by D1Baseball and No. 21 in the NCBWA preseason poll, will start their 2021 campaign with a four-game series against the Georgia State Panthers in Atlanta Georgia on Feb. 19-21, with a double-header on the 20th. The team will also participate in the Coastal Carolina University Baseball tournament at the end of the month.

“We couldn’t be more excited to get back to baseball this spring,” WVU coach Randy Mazey said in a statement. “This year’s schedule took quite a bit of effort and patience to complete, but we’re looking forward to all the challenges ahead. The conference looks as strong as ever, and our nonconference opponents will provide plenty of tests, too. We’re counting down the days until we get started.”

WVU’s full 48-game schedule will include 28 home games at Monongalia County Ballpark. WVU’s home-opener will be on March 5 against Kent State, the first of a three-game set against the Golden Flashes.

The Mountaineers will host in-state Marshall on March 9 and also play home series against Central Michigan, Morehead State and Coastal Carolina prior to starting Big 12 play.

WVU’s Big 12 schedule will open at home on March 26 with a three-game series against Kansas. During conference play, the Mountaineers will fit in a renewal of the Backyard Brawl, play at Pitt on April 6 and hosting the Panthers on May 5. They will also fit in a three-game series against Miami (Ohio) on May 14-16 with the regular season-finale scheduled to be a three-game series at Texas in Austin on May 20-22.
