A player will be representing West Virginia on a world stage. WVU baseball sophomore infielder Alex Khan has been selected to play for the Pakistan Baseball Federation in the upcoming World Baseball Classic Panama Qualifiers.
This double-elimination tournament runs from Sept. 30-Oct. 5, in Panama City, Panama. The countries of Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand, Nicaragua and Panama will also take part in the tournament. The extra incentive of this event is that the top-two teams will advance to be part of the 2023 World Baseball Classic field next March.

Khan, who is from Maryland, is eligible to play for Pakistan because his father was born there.
After not competing in the past years, Pakistan first formed a WBC team in 2017, but did not qualify.
Last season, Khan played in 31 games and started 6 of them for the Mountaineers. He recorded three RBI and scored two runs.
