Head coach Ross Hodge’s leading scorer from his first year in West Virginia has filed for another year of eligibility. This inevitably led to fans wondering if Honor Huff will return for another year as a Mountaineer.

However, according to Hodge, that’s a long way from being under consideration.

While WVU has two players who have won their cases against the NCAA for eligibility in Javan Buchanan and Brenen Lorient, Hodge said the conversations with Huff have been different, especially with how early in the process his complaint is.

“Being transparent in those conversations, you’re always kind of like, hey man, like your, your, your situation is … certainly not as clean as the other two guys. And it wasn’t until there were some people in his situation in other lawsuits around the country that experienced some relief, and so I think that’s what piqued his interest of like, ‘they’re getting it, can I get it,” Hodge said.

“You’d be talking about a lot of hypotheticals… I honestly have not put much thought into that situation.”

Hodge added that WVU has maxed out its roster spots, but some players have received a roster exemption in order to return to their prior team. However, Hodge says he prefers to stay away from hypotheticals.

“If it became a reality, then I think you can cross it. You maybe have some conversations as it leads closer to it. There’s been people that have won their cases. And in their cases, they asked for roster exemptions and not to be limited by rosters. That has been awarded to certain people,” Hodge said.

“Does that get awarded to him? I don’t know. Does he? So you’re just kind of like the if, if, if game. And it’s not a game I kind of like to participate in.”

Overall, Hodge made his position clear.

“I am supportive of him for sure. And I will support all these guys. what it looks like for him and here. And I think that’s just a different conversation for a different day, to be honest,” Hodge said.

Huff originally declared for the NBA Draft on April 30, but went undrafted.

Huff averaged 16.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 35.9% from the field during the 2025-26 regular season at WVU.
