WVU Basketball Enjoys Best KenPom Ranking of Season

For an extra reward after their first road win of the season, Ross Hodge’s WVU basketball team finds itself in its best position in KenPom of the season. The Mountaineers are inside the top 60 at No. 57 following their 75-63 win at Arizona State on Wednesday night.

WVU opened the week around No. 60 with a NET Rating of +14.25 after a recent convincing home win over Colorado.

West Virginia has a resume of a 70-54 win over Mount Saint Maryโ€™s, a 73-65 win over Campbell,ย a 69-47 victory over Lehigh, a 71-49 domination of Pitt in the Backyard Brawl, aย 81-59 blowout win over Lafayette,ย a 70-38 ย routing of Mercyhurst,ย a 91-49 blowout win over Coppin State,ย a 90-58 win over Little Rock,ย an 86-51 win over MVSU, ย 62-60 win over Cincinnati, aย 86-75 upset over Kansas, a convincing 72-61 win over Colorado and a 75-63 road win at Arizona State.

Looking at the rest of the Big 12, Arizona is No. 2, Houston is No. 7, Iowa State is No. 8, BYU is No. 15, Kansas is No. 18, Texas Tech is No. 21, Baylor is No. 42, UCF is No. 44, TCU is No. 52, Cincinnati is No. 54 and Oklahoma State is No. 64.

WVU started last season at No. 87 in the KenPom rankings and ended at No. 51.

Staying in Arizona, West Virginia will now enjoy a couple days of a break before facing Arizona, the No. 1 team in the nation, in Tucson on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off for WVU at Arizona is set for 2 p.m. ET.
