To further update one of West Virginia’s injuries, a key wide receiver will miss Saturday’s Big 12 opener against Kansas. As of Friday morning, WVU now has Preston Fox listed as out for this week.

Fox, who was hurt during the Backyard Brawl win over Pitt, was said to be “questionable” and “day-to-day” by head coach Rich Rodriguez during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

So far through two games, the Morgantown native has two catches for 32 yards, bringing in one ball against Ohio and then one against Pitt. Fox’s absence throughout most of the Pitt game allowed Rodney Gallagher to receive an increased role in the slot, one that is expected to continue in Lawrence. Gallagher also replaced Fox as the main returner.

Fox walked on at WVU as a West ย in 2020 and eventually earned a scholarship from then-head coach Neal Brown. Across four seasons prior to 2025, Fox amassed 43 receptions for 548 yards and three touchdowns. He’s in his final year of eligibility remaining from the 2020 COVID season.

Fox initially retired following the conclusion of the 2024 season only to return to the Mountaineers and play for Rodriguez in March.
