WVU signee Nicktroy Fortune confirms he is a Mountaineer following visit

This afternoon, I spoke with West Virginia cornerback signee Nicktroy Fortune. Fortune was visited by new Head Coach Neal Brown and newly hired cornerbacks coach Al Pogue.

When I asked how the visit went, he seemed very excited saying, “First thing I can say is, we’re in good hands. You can tell that Coach Brown is real family oriented and he’s a players first coach. I love the guy already and I’m excited to come up. Coach Pogue was someone I was hoping would get hired since he and I have been cool since he was at Troy. I’m hyped and ready to get to Morgantown.”

Anytime there is a overhaul of a coaching staff, you tend to wonder if the current players or signed players will fit schematically with the new coach. Fortune had no concern whatsoever. “Most definitely. We run five defensive backs and sometimes six. I know that I have to come in and work my tail off to at least touch the field.” he said.

Coaching changes are never easy on recruits, but it seems that this was a smooth transition for him due to his relationships with the new guys brought on staff. “It was a very easy decision. Coach Pogue and I click and we go way back to when my recruitment was picking up. So, when he got hired, I was hyped.”

Nicktroy will indeed take another official visit which is set for January 25th.

Fortune left me with a message to Mountaineer Nation, “I’m coming in to work hard and play my best. Let’s ride!”
