Being just one of two WVU wrestlers to make it to Day 2 of the NCAA Championships, Peyton Hall went in with a little extra motivation.

The fifth-year senior checked off another one of the goals for his final run by earning his third All-American honor with a quarterfinal victory on Saturday inside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Hall, the 2025 Big 12 Champion at 165 pounds, defeated Stanford’s Hunter Garvin 6-5 to become the third Mountaineer in program history to be named All-American three times.

His quest for his first NCAA title was denied in the semifinals, however, as Hall was dropped by Iowa’s Mike Caliendo by a 14-10 decision, giving him just his second loss of the season.

Hall will now wrestle his next match during Saturday’s morning session. With a victory, he would then wrestle for third place.

Fellow Mountaineer Jett Strickenberger was eliminated from the 125-pound bracket with back-to-back losses on Saturday.

Strickenberger matched with Virginia Tech’s Eddie Ventresca in the quarterfinals, battling to a 1-1 tie through three periods.

Ventresca secured a takedown in the extra period to claim a 4-1 victory.

Strickenberger then went to overtime again with Nebraska’s Caleb Smith. The two rallied to a 9-9 tie going into the extra period, where Smith earned the takedown to claim the 12-9 win.

Day 3 action begins with Session Five at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
