Amir Jenkins Signs With WVU Basketball
WVU Men’s Basketball has officially signed 2025 guard Amir Jenkins, per a release.
Jenkins, who was initially set to graduate in 2026, reclassified so he could join WVU for the upcoming season.
“We are excited to have Amir join our program,” Head Coach Ross Hodge said in the release. “He has all the qualities you look for in a point guard. He has great intangibles, has won everywhere he has been and makes everyone around him better. Amir fits perfectly with what we want from our student-athletes.”
Jenkins committed to WVU on July 1, just five days after his visit.
Jenkins was named the 2023-24 Massachusetts MaxPreps Player of the Year, leading North Worcester High School to a 24-0 record and a Division 1 state championship. He averaged 13.6 points, four rebounds, four assists and 2.6 steals per game.
After his commitment, Jenkins told On3 WVU felt like home, which led him to committing.
โI chose West Virginia because it felt like home. I like Coach Ross. Great person and think Iโm ready to play in college, and so does he, and lastly to get better,โ Jenkins told On3.
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finklestein had high praise for Jenkins in a post from July 1.
โAmir Jenkins is a playmaking lead guard and tone-setter on both ends of the floor who is loaded with competitive intangibles. Offensively, he is a constant threat to get a piece of the paint and create for both himself and others. Heโs dynamic in the open court with great speed, but also creative in the half-court with a quick first-step,โ Finklestein said.
Finklestein also added insight to Jenkinsโ defensive capabilities. As WVU head coach Ross Hodge comes to Morgantown carrying a defensive mindset, Jenkins adds more depth at the guard position.
