West Virginia women’s basketball players Kysre Gondrezick and Esmery Matinez were both named to this year’s All-Big 12 First Team, the conference announced Wednesday. Gondrezick became just the third Mountaineer to ever be a unanimous first-team selection.

Gondrezick, a redshirt-senior guard, led WVU in scoring this season, averaging 20 points per game. She shot 42.5% from the field and 36.4% from 3-point range. She also led the team with 109 assists.

Martinez, a sophomore forward, enjoyed a break-out 2020-21 season, averaging 13.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. She also blocked 23 shots and had a team-high 44 steals.

Sophomore guard Kirsten Deans and junior forward Kari Niblack were also recognized, both being named All-Big 12 honorable mentions. Deans averaged 13.8 points per game this season and Niblack averaged 9.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.

Oklahoma State’s Jim Littell was named Coach of the Year and Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith was named the Big 12 Player of the Year.

West Virginia is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament and will play the winner of Texas Tech/Kansas State in the quarterfinal round on Friday.
