Junior kicker, Evan Staley, has been named to the Lou Groza Award and the Wuerffel Trophy Watch Lists. In 2018, Staley was the Mountaineers field goal kicker, extra point kicker, and handled the kick offs. Evan finished second in the Big 12 in overall scoring and twenty-fifth nationally. He finished third in the Big 12 for field goal percentage.

He is a career 22-27 on field goal attempts, including his career-long of 49 yards against Syracuse and Kansas.

Staley joins Cameron Dicker (Texas), and Blake Lynch (Kansas State) of kickers from the Big 12 on the Groza watch list. For the Wuerffel Trophy watch list, he joins Sam Ehlinger (Texas, QB), Kelton Hollins (TCU, OL), Ray Lima (Iowa State, DL), Denzel Goolsby (Kansas State, DB), and Travis Bruffy (Texas Tech, OL) from the Big 12.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award is chosen from a panel of more than 100 FBS coaches, media members, former Groza finalists, and selected NFL kickers. Winner will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 26 and presented on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN. This year will be the 28th year celebrating the award.

“College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service” is the Wuerffel Trophy. It was named after Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel, and is awarded to the FBS player who shows great effort in the community and strong academic achievement.
