2018 NFL Mock Draft: Exclusively WVU

on

We are just a couple weeks away from the 2018 NFL Draft which will be held in Dallas, TX at AT&T Stadium and will be the first time an NFL stadium has played host to the event.

Since the Mountaineers’ switch to the Big 12 Conference, the talent that has come through Morgantown has improved significantly. For the majority of the 2000’s it was rare to see multiple Mountaineers selected in the NFL Draft, but not today. West Virginia has become a school that has consistently produced pro-level talent since the Holgorsen era began.

Credit coach Bill Stewart for a few of those guys, but Holgorsen has kept the trend going. This year may be a little out of the ordinary as only one Mountaineer has been projected to be drafted in all mock drafts. That guy would be two year starter at safety, Kyzir White. You can find White projected anywhere from the 2nd-4th rounds, but most have him going in the 3rd round.

Below are a few projections for where White may land.

Round 2, Pick 60- Pittsburgh Steelers

Round 3, Pick 78- Kansas City Chiefs

Round 3, Pick 94- Minnesota Vikings

My projection: Seattle trades into the 3rd round to select White.

To me, the Steelers and Vikings would be pretty solid fits for White. Kansas City wouldn’t be all that bad, but somewhere like Pittsburgh or Minnesota would be a great spot for him to ease into a big role.

As for White’s fellow teammates, there’s not a whole lot of, “interest” when it pertains to a draft selection, but most certainly as an un-drafted free agent.

A couple of guys I firmly believe deserve to be drafted are wide receiver Ka’Raun White and linebacker Al-Rasheed Benton. White was one of the more consistent pass catchers for West Virginia over the past two seasons once he found chemistry with Skyler Howard and Will Grier. He possesses great hands and can be labeled as a deep ball threat.

As for Benton, he is always around the football. He’s got a knack for knowing where the ball is going and doesn’t miss many tackles, a high football IQ, if you will. He has a thick frame that will suit him well at the next level, but his speed will be one thing the scouts are looking for him to improve on.

There are plenty of guys out there that could also get snagged up by a team like fullback Elijah Wellman, running back Justin Crawford and corner Elijah Battle among a few others.

I guess the real question is, how many more Mountaineers will end up in Philadelphia?
