4-Star Guard Amir Jenkins Reclassifies to Join WVU Basketball for 2025 Season

Four-star guard Amir Jenkins has committed to WVU Men’s Basketball, foregoing his senior year of high school to join the Mountaineers, per Joe Tipton of On3.
Jenkins was named the 2023-24 MaxPreps Player of the Year, leading North Worcester High School to a 24-0 record and a Division 1 state championship. He averaged 13.6 points, four rebounds, four assists and 2.6 steals per game.
The 6-foot-3 guard attended a visit on June 26 to WVU, committing just five days later.
“I chose West Virginia because it felt like home. I like Coach Ross. Great person and think I’m ready to play in college, and so does he, and lastly to get better,” Jenkins said in an interview with On3.
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finklestein had high praise for Jenkins in a post from July 1.
“Amir Jenkins is a playmaking lead guard and tone-setter on both ends of the floor who is loaded with competitive intangibles. Offensively, he is a constant threat to get a piece of the paint and create for both himself and others. He’s dynamic in the open court with great speed, but also creative in the half-court with a quick first-step,” Finklestein said.
Finklestein also added insight to Jenkins’ defensive capabilities. As WVU head coach Ross Hodge comes to Morgantown carrying a defensive mindset, Jenkins’ adds more depth at the guard position.
“Defensively, he’s the type of player you can build around. He’s quick enough to pick-up for the length of the floor, has a great nose for the ball, and real competitive energy,” Finklestein added. “That’s representative of his total approach as he’s loaded with energy and leadership abilities, which is a big part of why he’s built such a winning resume over his high school career.”
Jenkins chose WVU after receiving offers from schools such as Arizona State, Boston College, East Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Oklahoma State, USF, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier.
