Mountaineers Targeting Inside Linebacker from North Carolina

I got the chance earlier this week to catch up with another new West Virginia University football prospect, Osita (osi) Ekwonu. He’s an inside linebacker from Providence Day High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Coming in at 6`2 220-lbs, Osita is quick on reads and ball carriers can’t escape his grasp. He is good at stopping the running game and can also drop back in coverage.

Osi says “It’s a real blessing to get an offer like that. Not only because it’s a great school and football program, but also gives him the opportunity to play with his brother Ikem Ekwonu (also a WVU has offered) at the same time, which would be an awesome experience.”

When asked about the direction of the football program he said, “Their program is heading in the right direction, especially with the highly experienced coaching staff led by coach Holgeorsen”.

On the possibility of playing in the Big XII, Osi said ‘It would be a blessing to play at such a high level against some great competition”.

He does not have a decision date set yet, but says most likely will be announced in August before his senior season.

His goals for this upcoming season, are all state for sure, “I got snubbed this year and only got honorable mention list. So that’s only going to push me harder next season, along with winning states as a team”.

A player that he molds his game around is Roquan Smith, trying to be as aggressive and explosive as him.

A player that sticks out to him from WVU,  “I`d say the most prominent player I know is Will Grier”.

Biggest thing for him in choosing a school is education which to him is always number one. Saying. “You need a valuable education after football.  Also distance from home does not matter to him.
