Another crucial piece to the 2020 recruiting class was added today with the commitment of junior college defensive lineman Quay Mays (6’1″ 295 lbs) of Northwest Mississippi C.C.

Mays chose West Virginia over other offers from Iowa State, South Alabama, Central Florida & Charlotte.

The family connection seemed to have a big part in his recruitment as he told DubVNation back in March, “I’m planning on sticking with WVU, my uncle played there plus they were the first ones to hit me up so it’s a loyalty thing also.” Mays said.

His uncle, Alvoid Mays, played for West Virginia and was a standout defensive back for the 1988 undefeated team in a season where he hauled in five interceptions. He then went onto have a six year career in the NFL spending time with the Washington Redskins and the Pittsburgh Steelers, including a Super Bowl victory with the Redskins in 1992.

Mays also believes that the transition into the Mountaineer defense should be rather easy, “I feel like I fit perfectly. I’m very quick and powerful so I can adjust smoothly to whatever situation I’m put in.” he said.
