West Virginia Opens as Slim Betting Favorite Against Texas

In a battle of teams coming off bad losses, in varying ways, to be fair, West Virginia opens as a slim favorite against Texas Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium.

According to Circa Sports, WVU is a one-point home favorite against the Longhorns. The over/under is set at 59.5 points. In a contest between two teams riding a combined seven-game losing streak, both WVU and Texas will be motivated to win out in order to reach bowl eligibility.

DraftKings Sportsbook marked WVU as a two-point favorite over Texas, the odds on betting the spread for either school set at -110. The over/under is set at 57.5 points, again, with both the over and under set at -110 odds.

FanDuel Sportsbook gives WVU slightly thinner odds, marking the Mountaineers as a 1.5-point favorite. A bet against the spread for WVU holds -114 odds while the same for Texas holds -106 odds. The over/under is set the same as DraftKings’, both the over and under sitting at -110.

A money line bet for WVU holds -128 odds while the same for Texas holds +104 odds.

If Texas’s five game losing skid, complete with an overtime loss to Kansas on Saturday night, wasn’t bad enough, the Longhorns’ star running back Bijan Robinson will likely miss the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury, Austin-American Statesman’s Kirk Bohls reported.

Robinson is the Big 12’s third-leading rusher, racking up 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground and another 295 yards and four touchdowns through the air.

WVU and Texas have a history of playing competitive games, the Longhorns holding a 5-4 advantage in games played since the 2012 season. Texas is riding a two-game win streak in the series, winning last season’s matchup 17-13 in Austin.

Texas is 4-6 against the spread this season, failing to cover in all five losses in its current losing streak, while WVU is 5-5 against the spread this season, failing to cover any of the games played during its own losing streak.
