Mountaineers Have Never Lost Eight-Straight Games Under Bob Huggins

After West Virginia lost to Texas Tech over the weekend, it marked the first time in nine years that the basketball program has lost seven-straight games. In the 2012-13 season, the Mountaineers ended the year losing seven games in-a-row.

Since his hiring in 2007, WVU head coach Bob Huggins has never lost eight-straight games while at WVU. When will WVU’s losing streak end?

Meet the Opponent: Iowa State

Like West Virginia, Iowa State comes in dire need of a conference win. The Cyclones come into Morgantown with a 3-7 record in conference play, after starting to look like a top 10 team in the country. ISU is led by first year head coach TJ Otzelberger, who assisted Iowa State during the Fred Hoiberg and Steve Prohm days. Otzelberger had to rebuild a 2-22 team that was losing their top players to the transfer portal. The Cyclones brought in Izaiah Brockington (Penn State), Gabe Kalscheur (Minnesota), Caleb Grill (UNLV) and Tristan Enaruna (Kansas) to start the new era in Iowa State basketball.

The Cyclones have finally slowed down, losing six games out of their last nine. Now, the team falls out of the top 25 and continues to fall down the Big 12 standings. This is a must-win game for ISU too.

Taz Sherman is a Game-Time Decision Once Again

On Monday afternoon, Huggins announced that WVU’s leading scorer Taz Sherman did not practice on Sunday. At that point in time, Huggins also said he didn’t speak much with the doctor on Monday, so who knows if Sherman has practiced in the last 24 hours. The good news is that Huggins would not hold Sherman back in any way, if he passes the concussion tests, he’s playing regardless of practice time.

“[Sherman] didn’t practice yesterday,” Huggins said. “I didn’t really talk to the doctor [on Monday].”

It sounds like Sherman will be a game-time decision once again on Tuesday.

The spread for the West Virginia and Iowa State game is -2.5 WVU. The WVU money line is -140.

The over/under is 129.5.

Just don’t bet on the over. West Virginia and Iowa State will be lucky to combine for 100 points, let alone 130 points.
