The accolades are rolling in for WVU basketball and point guard Javon Small following a great first week of Big 12 play for the Mountaineers.

Small, who powered the Mountaineers to wins over then-No. 7 Kansas and Oklahoma State, has received multiple weekly awards. Small averaged 18.5 points, 11 rebounds and 5.5 assists playing 77 minutes in WVU’s two victories last week.

The senior scored 13 points, including the go-ahead free throw, in WVU’s first-ever win at Kansas before returning to Morgantown to put up 24 points against his old team in a blowout win over Oklahoma State. He was the Mountaineers’ leading rebounder in both contests, pulling down 11 boards in each.

So far on Monday, Small has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, Naismith Men’s College Player of the Week and Andy Katz’s Player of the Week. It is Small’s second Big 12 weekly award this season.

Legendary ESPN analyst Dick Vitale named WVU as a whole his Team of the Week and Darian DeVries his Coach of the Week.

Small could quietly be building a case for Big 12 Player of the Year. He currently leads the conference in scoring, averaging 19.5 points per game, and is ninth in assists (4.8) and sixth in steals (2.0).

WVU’s next game is a rematch with Arizona tomorrow at 7 p.m. inside the Coliseum (ESPN+). West Virginia defeated Arizona earlier this season in a non-conference game at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The Mountaineers will then make the long trip to play at Colorado on Sunday at 8 p.m. (ESPN+).
