Big man Oscar Tshiebwe nearing decision, leaning toward West Virginia

According to Jake Weingarten of Stockholders and Jason Marcum of A Sea of Blue, five star big man Oscar Tshiebwe is leaning toward West Virginia in his recruitment.

West Virginia has been in on Tshiebwe for quite some time and have built a serious connection with the talented center. He attends Kennedy Catholic in Pennsylvania, which is where current Mountaineer Sagaba Konate played. It is believed that both had the same host family after moving to the United States from Africa.

One anonymous college head coach said, “He is the best pure rebounder in all of high school basketball.”

Schools like Illinois and Baylor are in the mix, but don’t seem to be posing as a serious threat to West Virginia. Kentucky has made a late push, but it may be too little too late. Kentucky is also stocking up on big men and may not have the room or need for him, whereas West Virginia will be trying to replace the NBA-bound Konate.

It was announced today that Tshiebwe will make his decision on Sunday, October 21st. If the Mountaineers are able to land Tshiebwe’s services, he would be Bob Huggins’ highest rated recruit as the head coach at West Virginia.
