Mountaineers in the Pros
Bryce Ford-Wheaton Suffers Another Serious Injury, Derailing NFL Career
Bryce Ford-Wheaton continues to endure an NFL career plagued by bad luck. The former Mountaineer suffered a torn Achilles during practice on Sunday.
Soon after the news started spreading, Ford-Wheaton shared an emotional statement on social media that can be found in full below.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t devastated! I did everything by the book! Didn’t take a single shortcut, left no stone unturned, invested everything into my body and my health this year. I’m not sure why me but I promise I’m not going out on these terms. It’s a long road ahead for sure but I know this is just part of Gods plan for me no matter how tough it may seem right now. Thank you all for your prayers, please continue to keep me in them. I WILL be back that’s a promise!! God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers! 💙🤞🏾,” said Ford-Wheaton.
This will now be the second lost season in Ford-Wheaton’s short career, adding this to going down with an ACL tear in his first training camp as a rookie. He appeared in 14 games, mostly on special teams, last season, with one big highlight that led to a Giants win.
Ford-Wheaton spent four seasons at WVU under head coach Neal Brown. The 6-foot-4 athlete recorded 1,867 receiving yards and scored 15 touchdowns in a span of 38 career games for the Mountaineers. He completed his senior season with 62 catches and 675 yards. In 2022, Ford-Wheaton was second in the Big 12 in receiving touchdowns with seven. Despite his impressive testing numbers at the NFL Combine, especially his time in the 40-yard dash, the WVU wide receiver product went undrafted before signing with the Giants as a free agent.
