Can Gibson help the Eagles repeat?

One of the offensive standouts in the recent Philadelphia Eagles mini camp is Wide Receiver and West Virginia alumnus Shelton Gibson.  The former fifth round draft pick has turned some heads and gotten the attention of his Head Coach Doug Pederson.  Gibson played a total of 17 offensive snaps last year while finishing with two catches for 11 yards.   Gibson was known for his knack of making big plays at WVU, he had over 30 catches of 40+ yards in his last two seasons in Morgantown. He also ranks second all time in yards per reception in NCAA history with an average of 23.1 yards per catch.

During the Eagles mini-camp, Gibson was catching almost everything thrown at him while putting pressure on the talented secondary of the Super Bowl Champions. Gibson is the early favorite to land the fifth receiver spot on the team.  Pederson was quoted as saying,  “Shelton is one of the guys that has done a really good job in kind of embracing his role and embracing the competition.”

With his speed and big play ability Gibson has the chance to make a big jump from year one to year two with the Eagles.  The team returns a large portion of last years Super Bowl team as well as a few former Mountaineers who each won a ring.  There’s a good chance that this former Mountaineer may get another chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy again and hear chants of  “Fly Eagles Fly On The Road to Victory”.
