News broke late last night that former West Virginia point guard Jevon Carter suffered a freak injury to his right thumb during a workout. The Grizzlies rookie got his thumb caught in another players jersey which caused a ligament rupture. The Grizzlies reported that Carter’s injury will indeed require surgery, bu timetable for a return is to be determined.

Carter had a solid start with the Grizzlies in the NBA Summer League where he averaged 10.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.o apg. The Grizzlies just recently signed free agent point guard Shelvin Mack which now puts three veteran guards ahead of Carter. The others being Mike Conley and Andrew Harrison.

Although a timetable is still up in the air, the Grizzlies do expect him to return and contribute to the team this season. Carter will be brought off the bench during his development and will learn from one of the games best, Mike Conley.
