Former WVU Starter Labeled the Top Newcomer for Current Team

Much to the disappointment of most WVU fans, Hudson Clement decided to leave West Virginia rather than stay and play for Rich Rodriguez. Now a member of the Illinois Illini, Clement is being labeled as the top newcomer for a team placed in a way-too-early top 25.
“Clement will end the season as Illinois’ most productive receiver and the top target for Altmyer. His upside is extremely high and he’s an experienced Power 4 veteran. Clement showed flashes this spring and has a mix of Bryant’s and Franklin’s traits. The 6-foot-1, 205 pounder has a nice frame and a savvy feel for navigating zone coverage and finding the soft spots in the second and third levels of the defense. Clement is a very reliable downfield target with excellent hands and body control. His leadership experience in the wide receiver room will be just as important as his play on the field,” said Billy Tucker on ESPN.
Clement became an instant fan favorite throughout the last two seasons. He initially started off as a walk-on out of Martinsburg, W.Va. and then eventually earned a full scholarship after a breakout performance early in the 2023 season.
In 2024, Clement caught 51 balls for 741 yards and scored five touchdowns. He’s coming off a monster performance in West Virginia’s 42-37 Frisco Bowl lossas well.
Against Memphis, Clement made 11 receptions for 166 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns.
Clement recorded 73 receptions for 1,221 yards and scored nine touchdowns in two years with West Virginia.
