It took until the second half of the NFC Wild Card game, but Geno Smith’s luck eventually ran out.

Smith magical season comes to an end, falling to the 49ers on Saturday evening. The 49ers wee able to eventually pull away and eliminate Seattle despite entering the second half trailing 17-16.

San Francisco outscored Seattle 25-6 in the third and fourth quarter, winning 41-23. Smith was efficient in the loss, completing 71.4% of his passes and throwing for 253 yards with a couple touchdowns. He did throw an interception, something his younger counterpart didn’t do. The 49ers defense, which had allowed the least points against all season, became too tough to deal with, especially as quarterback Brock Purdy was able to continue to lead successful drives and put points on the board.

As for the other former Mountaineers from both teams, Bruce Irvin recorded 4 solo tackles and a sack for the Seahawks while Colton McKivitz, who missed time on IR this season, blocked for Purdy.

Next up for Smith is reportedly re-signing with Seattle and playing in his first career Pro Bowl to recognize his solid individual play throughout the season.
